Against the backdrop of the global promotion of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals and the continuous improvement of China’s carbon market construction and green low-carbon development policies, the Carbon Emission Manager is a core professional technical position responsible for the whole-process management of an enterprise’s greenhouse gas emission reduction work. This position is committed to building and improving the enterprise’s carbon emission management system, completing accurate accounting and continuous monitoring of carbon emissions, designing scientific and feasible carbon reduction strategies and implementation plans, operating and managing carbon assets effectively, ensuring the enterprise’s compliance with carbon emission-related laws, regulations and regulatory requirements, and promoting the integration of carbon management into the enterprise’s daily production and operation and long-term development strategy. The Carbon Emission Manager will act as a bridge between the enterprise and government regulatory authorities, carbon exchanges, third-party verification institutions and other external organizations, and also drive the improvement of the whole staff’s carbon reduction awareness through internal training and communication, so as to help the enterprise achieve green low-carbon transformation and sustainable development, balance carbon reduction effects and business operation costs, and even realize the value realization of carbon assets and create additional economic benefits for the enterprise. This position requires a solid professional foundation in carbon emission management, proficient mastery of carbon accounting methods, carbon market mechanisms and carbon reduction technologies, strong data analysis, project management and cross-departmental collaboration capabilities, as well as the ability to accurately interpret and apply national and local carbon-related policies and keep abreast of the latest trends in the global carbon market and low-carbon development.
Core Job Responsibilities
1. Carbon Emission Accounting and Monitoring Management
Take full responsibility for the whole process of the enterprise’s greenhouse gas emission accounting, and ensure the authenticity, accuracy and traceability of carbon emission data. First of all, sort out and identify all carbon emission sources of the enterprise in accordance with national and industrial greenhouse gas emission accounting guidelines, GHG Protocol and ISO 14064 international standards, and divide them into Scope 1 (direct emissions from fuel combustion and industrial production processes), Scope 2 (indirect emissions from purchased electricity, steam and other energy sources) and Scope 3 (other indirect emissions in the value chain such as raw material procurement, transportation and logistics, product sales and after-sales service) according to international universal classification standards. Establish and improve the enterprise’s carbon emission accounting working group, define the accounting boundary and accounting cycle, formulate standardized data collection processes and specifications, and guide relevant business departments such as production, energy and logistics to collect and sort out activity level data such as energy consumption, raw material usage and transportation mileage in a timely and standardized manner. Select and update the emission factor database in accordance with the latest national, industrial and local emission factor standards, and combine the enterprise’s actual production and operation conditions to carry out scientific carbon emission calculation. Complete the preparation of the enterprise’s carbon emission accounting report on a regular basis (monthly, quarterly and annual), and establish a dynamic carbon emission account and data archive system to record all accounting processes, data sources and calculation results in detail. In addition, be responsible for the construction and operation of the enterprise’s carbon emission monitoring system, select and apply professional carbon emission monitoring equipment and technical means, carry out continuous real-time monitoring of key emission sources and high-energy-consumption production links, track and analyze the changes of carbon emission data in real time, and promptly identify abnormal fluctuations of data and find out the causes. Organize on-site data collection and verification work regularly, go to the enterprise’s production bases, workshops and project sites to check the actual situation of energy consumption and emission discharge, and ensure the consistency between the monitored data and the actual production and operation data. Establish a carbon emission data early warning mechanism, and issue early warning reminders in a timely manner when the carbon emission data is close to the preset control index, and put forward preliminary adjustment suggestions.
2. Carbon Reduction Strategy and Plan Design & Implementation
Based on the results of carbon emission accounting and monitoring, combined with the enterprise’s industry characteristics, production and operation scale, business development goals and carbon emission base, carry out in-depth analysis of the enterprise’s carbon emission characteristics and key emission reduction links, and identify the potential and priority directions of carbon reduction. Formulate the enterprise’s medium and long-term carbon peaking and carbon neutrality action plan and short-term carbon reduction work objectives (annual, quarterly), and decompose the carbon reduction indicators into various business departments, production workshops and specific production links, and formulate clear assessment standards and implementation timetables. Design targeted and feasible carbon reduction implementation plans for different emission sources and business links, and comprehensively consider the balance between carbon reduction effects, investment costs, technical maturity and implementation difficulty. For high-energy-consumption production links, propose energy-saving transformation plans such as replacing high-efficiency energy-saving equipment, optimizing production processes, recycling waste heat and pressure, and improving energy utilization efficiency; for energy consumption structure, formulate plans for replacing traditional fossil energy with renewable energy such as photovoltaic power generation, wind power and biomass energy, and promote the enterprise’s use of green electricity and green steam; for the supply chain and logistics links, design optimization schemes such as adopting new energy logistics vehicles, optimizing transportation routes, realizing centralized transportation and promoting the use of environmentally friendly and recyclable packaging materials; for the production and operation process, advocate the development of a circular economy, and put forward suggestions such as recycling and reusing production waste, replacing traditional raw materials with low-carbon and environmentally friendly raw materials, and improving product recycling rate. Organize the cross-departmental carbon reduction project implementation team, coordinate the production, technology, equipment, finance and other departments to promote the landing of carbon reduction plans and projects, track the implementation progress of the projects in real time, monitor the carbon reduction effect of the projects, and conduct regular evaluation and analysis of the project benefits. Adjust and optimize the carbon reduction plan in a timely manner according to the actual implementation effect, market changes and policy adjustments to ensure the achievement of the enterprise’s carbon reduction goals. In addition, pay close attention to the latest carbon reduction technologies and industry best practices at home and abroad, conduct research and demonstration on the applicability of new carbon reduction technologies such as carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), and promote the pilot application of mature and applicable low-carbon technologies in the enterprise.
3. Carbon Asset Operation and Carbon Trading Management
Be responsible for the whole process management of the enterprise’s carbon assets, including carbon emission allowances, national certified emission reductions (CCER) and other voluntary emission reduction credits, and realize the preservation and appreciation of carbon assets through scientific carbon trading strategies and carbon asset development and operation. First of all, be familiar with the operation rules of the national carbon market and local carbon market pilot areas, master the allocation rules, quota adjustment mechanisms and transaction processes of carbon emission allowances, and complete the application, receipt and management of the enterprise’s carbon emission allowances in accordance with the requirements of government regulatory authorities. Track the price trend and market supply and demand changes of the carbon market in real time, conduct in-depth analysis and forecast of the carbon market trend combined with factors such as national policy adjustments, industrial development and market sentiment, and formulate scientific and reasonable carbon trading strategies for the enterprise.
